Murals are really just large scale paintings. Although some of the logistics of attaching the murals in their places may take a bit of a think. Painting is just as easy as a smaller canvas, it just takes longer. I always include a shot of the brushes used during painting to show they are just normal 1/4" to 2" brushes.
It has been my great pleasure to paint for the 150th celebration of Dushore's incorporation, 2009 and to paint a mural for the Sullivan County Courthouse during renovations in 2015.
Designing the layout sketch for the mural with Bobbycat who inspected every painting I did during her lifetime
The first stroke. This mural was designed to be wallpapered up. Clair built a special roller system so I had two sheets up at all times
My vision with murals is to allow the viewer to enjoy the detail. The larger the work more detail you can put in.
If you get to visit the courthouse my mural is the backdrop to a collection of preserved local wildlife. My mural also contains local animals which are not on display. Can you find them all?
For the Dushore mural, look for the small details ..like the dog chasing the cat to represent Doc Shoemaker. How many horses can you find ? As a part of the agreement to hang the mural on the Dushore Market I had to include so many horse and carriages ( even the car is a Mustang). There's also a story to the man riding the tractor representing the local farming community. What else can you see?
